Alastair Hardie, a Founder

The Scottish Fiddle Society was established in 2002 with the following objectives:

  • To encourage and support the teaching of Scotland's indigenous fiddle tradition.
  • To enhance general knowledge of the fiddle, its music, the great players and composers.
  • To promote understanding of the history and continuing advance of the rich heritage of Scottish fiddle music through performance, advocacy and research.
  • To build up a public information service (on- and off-line) for the benefit of all who are interested.
  • To create an archive of manuscripts, published collections, and sound and visual recordings fully accessible to the public.
